Partner - Intellectual Property Attorney
Ben is a founding partner of CMB and has nearly twenty years of experience as an intellectual property lawyer. He began his career at Finnegan, one of the world’s largest IP boutiques, and left there in 2013 to launch our firm.
Ben’s patent practice includes preparing and prosecuting patent applications, counseling clients regarding issues related to portfolio management and strategic growth, negotiating complex licensing agreements, and litigating clients’ patent rights. He has also analyzed large-scale patent portfolios for some of the world’s most advanced technology companies and helped clients maximize their return on investment by devising multi-faceted monetization strategies.
Ben’s technological experience spans a variety of mechanical, electrical, and software fields. The medical and general wellness industries are two areas of focus. For example, Ben has counseled clients specializing in devices and diagnostic tools related to: cardiovascular and cardiothoracic medicine; heart rate and pulse oximetry monitoring; activity monitoring; concussion prevention, detection, and treatment; glucose monitoring and insulin delivery systems; and speech pathology. Ben’s practice further extends to home automation, IoT, mobile device management systems, textile manufacturing, fiber optics, automotive technologies, telecommunications networks, paper products, sporting goods, and data encryption and analytics.
Ben also has a robust trademark practice, preparing and prosecuting trademark applications, policing clients’ marks across the globe, and enforcing trademark rights in court when necessary. Based on his broad exposure to all aspects of IP counseling, clients can rely on him to provide them with strategic guidance they can trust at virtually every stage of their intellectual property development.
At times, Ben’s practice has extended to areas of corporate law where he provides clients with legal oversight related to corporate formation and business planning, merger and acquisition transactions, early-stage financings, and negotiating technology, licensing, and partnership agreements. Ben has also served as an outsourced or fractional general counsel for CMB’s clients, as he enjoys operating as a member of our clients’ teams, focused on the success of their business.
